Palm Valley created an opportunity to not only work in a new environment and context, but to also work with practitioners and professionals in another country. The involvement of passionate architects and developers drove the momentum for the project as a whole and created a fertile environment for creativity and enthusiasm.
The inspiration for Palm Valley is drawn from images of the things we love – courtyards, water, internal connections to green zones, order and light filled areas in which to find oneself ‘at home’.
From a general design perspective there are ‘threads’ that run through all the buildings – from the larger and grander Villas to the more carefully planned Townhouses. The style is neither Modern nor Traditional, but strives rather to steer towards elements of “Classic Graciousness” in its interpretation. Every effort has been made to establish a cohesive design ethic that is clear and readable without being in any way constricting. This has a lot to do with the buildings relationship to the outside and the ‘spaces between’ the built forms. Courtyards and Terraces have always been a model for effectively connecting buildings to their environment and at Palm Valley this tool has been used maximum advantage. Space is not compromised but rather ‘managed’ in the arrangement of the Site Layout, benefiting all equally.
The sense of vertical scale is a dominant feature in all the homes and is constantly seeking expression. All the buildings share Double Volumes in some area and here the use of large format steel windows lends a kind of Industrial sophistication to these ‘light filled’ interiors.
